At the end of the maze, there is a statue of a Golden Lion. Yeraedong, where the maze park is located, translates to ‘the lion is coming,’ deriving its name from a legend. Across from Seogwipo’s sea lies Beom Island, resembling a tiger, gazing at Yeraedong. Legend has it that Yeraedong suffered misfortunes due to a tiger-shaped curse. One day, a monk passing by saw an island rising steeply in the sea to the east at sunrise, shaped like a tiger, bringing calamity to the village. Therefore, to counter the tiger and bring peace back to the village, they named it Yerae, meaning ‘the lion is coming’ as there is a lion-shaped hill in the northwestern part of the village. Since then, the village has regained tranquility.
